Molecular microbiology and emerging technologies including have a basic understanding of molecular biology technology (DNA/RNA

While numerous microbes have been cultivated from such environments, molecular microbiology methods (MMM) such as 16S rRNA gene sequencing has revealed an even broader microbial diversity that includes organisms associated with aerobic, anaerobic, and fermentative metabolic abilities. Molecular Biology techniques include characterization, isolation and manipulation of the molecular components of cells and organisms. These components include DNA, the repository of genetic information; RNA, functional and structural part of the translational apparatus and proteins, the major structural and enzymatic type of molecule in cells. MOLECULAR METHODS ARE REVOLUTIONIZING• The use of molecular biology techniques, such as nucleic acid probing and amplification, provides the potential for revolutionizing how we diagnose infecting pathogens and determining the relation between nosocomial isolates. Molecular techniques can be very effective in tracking the spread of nososcomial infections due to genetically related pathogens, which would allow infection control personnel to more rationally identify potential sources of pathogens and aid infectious disease physicians in the development of treatment regimens to manage patients affected by related organisms. Molecular biology techniques are common methods used in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and biophysics which generally involve manipulation and analysis of DNA, RNA, protein, and lipid.

The molecular diagnostics landscape has changed dramatically since the last edition of Molecular Microbiology: Diagnostic Principles and Practice in 2011. With the spread of molecular testing and the development of new technologies and their opportunities, laboratory professionals and physicians more than ever need a resource to help them navigate this rapidly evolving field.

Traditional morphological, physiological, and biochemical techniques for the detection, differentiation, and identification of microorganisms have severe limitations. As an alternative, many of those responsible for The new series METHODS IN MOLECULAR GENETICS provides practical experimental procedures for use in the laboratory.

Molecular testing methods have the potential to replace many conventional microbiology laboratory assays. Recent refinements in technology have resulted in more user-friendly testing platforms. These platforms are automated and have lowered risks for contamination, decreased costs, and are faster th …

This book presents key methodologies, tools and databases for biochemistry, microbiology and molecular biology in simple and straightforward language. Covering all aspects related to experimental principles and procedures, the protocols included here are brief and clearly defined, and include essential precautions to be taken while conducting experiments. The advantages of these molecular methods over traditional microbiology are discussed, along with the requirements and challenges faced during implementation in a routine clinical setting. Basic methods and molecular techniques are described, including the principle reactions of some assays of current interest for infectious diseases. Molecular techniques offer a solution for atypical strains or strains for which a selective medium is unavailable or not performing well, such as lecithinase‐ and hemolysin‐negative Bacillus cereus strains (Fricker and others 2008) and sorbitol‐fermenting E. coli O157 (Posse and others 2008). 2019-09-28 2015-09-18 2015-11-01 The new series METHODS IN MOLECULAR GENETICS provides practical experimental procedures for use in the laboratory. Because the introduction of molecular genetic techniques has revolutionized biological research, a wide range of methods is covered.
